Theo works in the school bus transportation division of a transit agency. His job is to manage the drivers who operate the school buses. He needs to ensure that drivers are running safe vehicles and adhering to planned schedules.
Today, Theo is looking at some driver performance reports. With the Busology solution Theo’s agency uses, running reports is easy. A few clicks on the keyboard and the report generates. The reports are simple to read and analyze. Today, Theo sees that speeding has become an issue in the area of Pine and Main. Theo knows the area and also knows that the repaving in the area recently makes it very tempting to increase your speed. He will speak with the drivers about it.
The next report tells Theo that the absenteeism rate among drivers has decreased in the past couple of months. Yes, Theo cheers. This means that the new incentive program is working and the tools they have implemented to help drivers are appreciated. This should lead to increased driver retention, a key goal at the agency.
A couple more reports to analyze and Theo will have a really clear and whole understanding of driver performance and an indication of how Busology is driving safety and reliability of the school bus program.
Frank has a demanding job as the Operations Manager of a busy school bus system. He reports to the executive team at the school district and one of their key priorities, and his, is to ensure the agency is efficient.
In the past this was a tricky deliverable for Frank. He did not have a clear picture of the components he would need to analyze to provide an answer.
Fast forward to the present day. Frank’s job is still demanding, but with Busology he can report accurately on where inefficiencies in the organization live, and go a step further and make recommendations to the executive team. For example, just last week he was looking at the routing reports and discovered that long term construction was going to delay their planned school bus schedules on a certain route. He worked with the Scheduling Manager to come up with an alternate, yet still safe and reliable, route that would ensure buses were not consistently arriving late.
Bill hangs up the phone and finishes jotting down his notes from the call. He was speaking to his transportation agency’s Call Center Manager, who has received a few calls from parents this week regarding their children’s bus continually being late to pick up their children in the morning. He promised he would look into the situation.
Booting up the Busology platform, he accesses the Reporting solution. Whereas a year ago he would have had to seek anecdotal information from drivers and parents about what was happening in the field, now he can get the full story by running a simple report.
Bill first discovers the special needs vehicle in question based on the parents who had called, is Al Landy’s route and indeed in the last few weeks the bus had fallen behind at some point on the route. Bill sees in the GPS Tracking data that Al lingered longer than was allocated at one particular house. He quickly pulls up the student sign-up roster and sees that the stop at Jennifer Dawson’s home is taking twice as long as it normally should, and this is putting all of the stops after it in a late status. Bill looks at the Dawsons’ application for the special needs vehicle service and sees that no equipment is listed on the form that would need to be onboarded. Equipment always takes a few extra minutes to get loaded onto the bus. A quick phone call to Al solves the mystery. Jennifer in fact does have equipment, a wheelchair, to board and there is not enough time allocated for her stop to still be on time for the next ones.
Bill gets to work updating the schedule for this route. Once this step is complete, he will ensure that the new times are communicated to drivers and parents by communicating through the apps.
Absolutely! Our Reporting solution sounds like it would be perfect for you. You’ll be able to see trends over time, whether you’re interested in planned routes vs. alternate routes, on-time performance, maintenance queues, or other performance indicators.
Yes we can. With our Reporting module you can run these reports as often as you like and they are pulled from real-time data. We enable the tracking of all buses with GPS data, as well as students boarding and disembarking the bus with their RFID tag.
